IDENTITY THEFT, MYSPACE AND YOUR WORLD - this talk discusses the substantial benefits and serious threats surrounding the online collection and dissemination of our personal information. From identity theft to privacy on MySpace and Facebook, this talk gets the message across that great care must be taken to protect our online identities from Internet bad actors. I am an expert in
the field of online privacy and have written numerous articles on topics such as identity theft and employee monitoring. In fact, my article on employee monitoring appears as the fourth hit of 619,000 on a Google search for “employer monitoring.”
PROFESSIONALISM AND YOUR IRON RING - this talk takes a look at historical examples of professionalism and compares them to the examples set by contemporary professionals such as professional athletes, lawyers and business executives. The story of the iron ring and the professional oath taken by Canadian engineers is recounted and audiences are encouraged to create their own version of an iron ring and act like professionals regardless of their chosen career. This talk also discusses the ways that society judges its professionals – especially by the way they speak, think, dress, listen – and what character attributes society expects of its professionals.
ETHICS, MORALE AND ENRON-PROOFING YOUR LIFE - this talk begins with a discussion of Enron and its downfall and ends with audience members challenged to develop their character. In between, the discussion focuses on the three major ethical theories of Utilitarianism, Deontology and Virtue Ethics and applies each to real-world situations and dilemmas.
